Cadillac is gunning for BMW. The company's recently unveiled ATS is a clear shot across the bow of the German automaker's 3 Series, and Bloomberg BusinessWeek reports the small sedan may be the first of a larger product offensive. Kurt McNeil, vice president of sales with Cadillac, said the luxury brand is currently looking into the possibility of a small CUV designed to lure in BMW X3 buyers. The vehicle would be smaller than the current Cadillac SRX, which saw an 11 percent increase in sales last year.
The report makes it clear that General Motors hasn't given the go-ahead on the smaller crossover, though the fact that Cadillac is growing its presence globally will likely factor heavily in the final decision on whether or not to bring the vehicle to market. 2012 Cadillac CTS 3.6 Sedan It’s the latest CTS, which is a lot like the CTS we already know and like. For 2012, the 3.6-liter version of Cadillac’s only car gets a new cylinder-head design with integrated exhaust manifolds, a composite intake manifold, lighter connecting rods, and upgrades to the fuel system. Power is up by 14 hp to 318, and the torque peak is now 275 lb-ft, an increase of just 2 but available 300 rpm sooner on the tachometer. Incidentally, the 2012 Camaro’s V-6 gets the same upgrades this year and makes 323 hp. Cadillac claims the changes reduce engine weight by 21 pounds.
The other major change for 2012 is a refreshed grille, which has a new “frame and mesh combination” and sharper colors in the Cadillac logo. We actually had to take that line from the press release because we only noticed the changes after looking at photos of the 2011 and 2012 car side by side. 2011 Cadillac SRX Turbo Review
Cadillac has done the best job of all the GM brands in terms of styling across the entire model lineup. You can tell every Cadillac model is a Cadillac.
The SRX has many of the styling cues of the larger Escalade, with its upright headlights and taillights, and some sharp crease lines offsetting the rounded shapes of the roofline. It’s definitely better looking than the last generation, plus there are plenty of chrome accent pieces that dress this new generation model up a bit.
The interior is the new SRX is beautiful, luxurious, and inviting. The dash of my test model came finished in two-tone chocolate over beige, with tasteful wood inserts in the doors, and small touches in the console and the top of the steering wheel and shift knob. The driver sees a three-gauge array in front of him, with a large speedo in the center, tach on the left, and fuel, temp, and turbo boost on the right. There’s an LCD info screen in the center of the speedo for all the electronic trip computer, fuel mileage, cruise control settings, etc. Each gauge has a surround of brightwork, which is carried over to the Cadillac steering wheel insert, HVAC outlets and center stack. The interior is covered in soft touch leather on the door armrests, and dual storage center console. The seats are also covered in soft perforated leather. They’re supportive, yet wide enough to be all day comfortable and are both heated and cooled, although even on the highest of the three cooling settings I couldn’t tell it was on.
Another complaint I had was with the dual cupholders, which are designed for huge drink containers, and don’t support smaller ones all that well. A nice feature that I hadn’t anticipated was the electrically adjustable brake and gas pedals. Another nice touch is the “Ultraview” moonroof, which spans nearly the entire roof. Only the front half opens, but with the power sunshade retracted, it gives the cabin a bright, open and airy feel.

General Motors is hoping to snag buyers who'd otherwise be driving an Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class when it launches the new Cadillac XTS next year. That may prove a tall order, but the General is going about it in an interesting way.
Rather than (or in addition to) marketing the new XTS directly to prospective buyers, Cadillac is reportedly planning on selling its new flagship sedan (potentially stretched by approved third-party coachbuilders) to what are commonly known as Town Car drivers – known in the industry as Black Cars. We're not talking about the retiree down the street who refuses to drive anything but a full-size Lincoln – we're talking about car service operators who shuttle those with the means around cities like New York. Like taxis, only booked in advance and slightly more upscale, they're the preferred mode of transportation for affluent professionals and executives in Manhattan.
It's a market dominated by (and commonly borrowing its name from) the Lincoln Town Car, a vehicle that is finally out of production despite accounting for the lion's share of this niche market after extending its lifespan for years. Cadillac is getting ready to launch into a segment of the automotive market that's already rife with serious competition। The upcoming Cadillac ATS will do battle with the likes of the Acura TL, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Infiniti G, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, among others. Cadillac has confirmed that the 3.0-liter V-6 will be the only engine available in its SRX crossover for the 2011 model year, as the optional turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 has been canned.
The 2.8T engine, which made 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, wasn’t a favorite of ours, suffering from power surges and nonlinearity all over the tach. Buyers also never took to the 2.8T in the SRX, either, instead preferring the 265-hp, 3.0-liter model—although we expect that was largely due to price. The 2.8T was only available in relatively well-loaded, all-wheel-drive SRXs, so turbo models started at a staggering $50,140—a whopping $15,500 more than a base, front-wheel-drive SRX . Even comparably equipped, the price differential between the two models was close to four grand. Add in lease programs heavily favoring the 3.0 models, and it’s not hard to believe the lousy take rate for the 2.8T, which we were told was less than 10 percent.
But what of the turbo six’s future? The 2.8-liter turbo-six engine is also used by Saab in the new 9-5 and upcoming 9-4X—the latter shares a Mexican assembly line with the Cadillac SRX—and a Saab spokesperson said that the 2.8T will continue to be available in those vehicles through the 2012 model year. Whether the engine will be phased out of GM’s Opel products, like the Insignia, is unclear.

Originally designated as the T150, the company later changed the name to avoid any confusion with Ford's F-150. What separates the Tundra from other imported pickups is the truck's domestic touch. It is bolder and more powerful than previous foreign attempts in the segment, giving it more in common with traditional American nameplates such as Ford and Chevy. The first generation Tundra started off powered by a 3.4L V6 engine, but a 4.7L V8 was later introduced, marking the first time a Toyota truck would be offered with a V8 engine. Right from the start, the Toyota Tundra was a hit. It held the record for highest initial sales for Toyota and also took home Motor Trend's Truck of the Year. Toyota needed a truck that could compete with the big boys and the Tundra delivered an immediate impact the entire industry took notice of.
The Tundra would see a supercharger become available courtesy of Toyota Racing Development, upping the previous horsepower of the V6 to 260 HP and the V8 in the mid 300s. In 2003, the Tundra's cab and grille were updated. A year later, the bed was extended and proved to be longer than the Nissan Titan or Ford's venerable 1-50. A Double Cab model with four doors was also offered and the interior and exterior saw detailing. Both engine options were upgraded come 2005, with a 4.0L V6 replacing the original 3.4L engine and the V8 being scrapped in favor of a VVT-I variable valve timing engine capable of 271 HP. Transmissions included a 6-speed manual as well as 5-speed automatic. These updates helped the Tundra stay relevant in a highly competitive field, as the Tundra still was not known for the towing capacity of its domestic counterparts. The Darrel Waltrip Edition was introduced in 2006 in recognition of the NASCAR driver's run in the Truck Series. This version of the Tundra was a Double Cab V8 powered model with 18 inch wheels and unique exterior badging.
Showcasing flared-out fenders and a slightly larger overall build, the 2007 ToyImage via Wikipediaota Tundra arrived new and improved. Four-cylinder equipped Highlanders come with a six-speed automatic transmission, while V6 outfitted Highlanders get a five-speed automatic. The V6 engine is also available with all-wheel drive for improved off-road capability. Maximum towing capacity with the four-cylinder engine is 3,500 pounds, which increases to 5,000 pounds for the V6.

2011 Toyota Highlander debuts in Moscow. Right on cue, Toyota has debuted the 2011 Highlander at this year's Moscow Motor Show. As we first showed you earlier this month, the refreshed crossover now wears a slightly reworked nose, complete with hood, front fenders, fascia, grille and headlights as well as a mildly massaged rear end. Look for new taillights and a new bumper cover to help differentiate the 2011's rump from its predecessors. Buyers in the motherland can look forward to a single engine – a 3.5-liter gasoline V6 delivering 273 horsepower through a five-speed automatic transmission.

Can we expect a similar treatment when the 2011 Highlander hits our shores? Perhaps. We're currently awaiting a response from Toyota as to whether this is the face of things to come for the U.S.-spec CUV, but we'd be surprised if our version was terribly different from what you see above, as the Highlander is only built in three factories – China, Japan, and Indiana, making a Russia-specific model unlikely. Tires and rims were stolen from the 2008 Cadillac Escalade of Dallas Cowboys starting free safety Ken Hamlin, Dallas police said today.

Mr. Hamlin reported that he found his car propped up on bricks in an apartment parking lot in the 13000 block of Noel Road near The Galleria, police said.

Missing from the vehicle were all four tires and rims, valued at $15,000.

The theft occurred sometime between midnight and 7 a.m., and police said there were no witnesses or suspect information.

Police said they were unsure if Mr. Hamlin's vehicle had an anti-theft system.

Mr. Hamlin, in his second season with the Cowboys and sixth in the NFL, was designated the Cowboys' franchise player in February. He earned his first Pro-Bowl selection last season.

"We’re vulnerable just like anybody else," Mr. Hamlin said. "Things happen to us just like regular people. That’s how you got to look at it.”

Well the Paris Motor Show surely is big stuff for the major European manufacturers. After quite a lot of them already announced to unveill new models or major facelifts for actual ones, you would think that no news could appear just a few days before the beginning of the show. Well guess again, this time Seat thought it was better late than never to begin the hype around its up coming mid-size sedan, the Exeo.

The Dutch dealership has created this clever little teaser site which counts down until the beginning of the show in Paris. Besides this timer, several photos are depicted featuring some aspects of the new model. All of them point to the Exeo, Seat’s new mid size sedan, which is Audi’s old generation A4.

As expected, the Exeo will be based on the old A4, after Volkswagen, the parent company of the two manufacturers decided that another rival for the Ford Focus or Opel Insignia wouldn’t hurt the sales. Plus it would give a boost in profits for the Spanish manufacturer which is getting back on its feet after some quite troublesome years.

Even though it will essentially be the old car, I have to admit that the latin design will be quite interesting. After all, they managed to transform a pretty dull Golf V into the gorgeous looking Leon. Cadillac automotive grille.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States dropped in the last two weeks as Hurricane Ike led to lower demand for fuel, and the cost of filling the tank will likely keep falling, a prominent industry analyst said on Sunday. ADVERTISEMENT

The national average price for self-serve, regular unleaded gas fell 3.8 cents to $3.6582 a gallon on September 26, from $3.6963 two weeks earlier, according to the nationwide Lundberg Survey. Diesel fuel fell 9.7 cents to $4.1627 a gallon from $4.2597.

"Ike reduced driving in areas that were damaged," Trilby Lundberg, who compiles the survey, said in an interview. "Retailers also kept prices in check, perhaps to avoid being accused of price gouging."

Ike slammed into the Texas coast on September 13. A comeback in refining capacity, along with higher imports, is now adding supply and "will allow for further price cuts immediately," Lundberg said.

The Lundberg survey evaluates prices at about 5,000 gas stations. That is down from 7,000 two weeks ago, reflecting a new sampling model that Lundberg said does not affect the survey's accuracy. The price of a gallon of gasoline is down more than 45 cents from the record $4.1124 set on July 11.

According to Lundberg, the U.S. Southeast region had occasional supply outages following Ike, triggering unusually large price increases. The average pump price rose to $4.14 from $3.75 two weeks earlier in the Atlanta area, and to $4.07 from $3.90 around Charlotte, North Carolina, but will likely fall back as supply problems are fixed, she said.

"Demand falls seasonally every September, and is also declining this year because of high prices and the weaker economy," Lundberg said. "Retail prices should continue to slide, but are unlikely to go back to $3 a gallon absent a global collapse in crude oil demand."

NYMEX crude for November delivery settled Friday just below $107 a barrel, more than $41 off its peak on July 11, Reuters data show.

According to the Lundberg survey, drivers in Honolulu are paying an average $4.15 a gallon for unleaded gas, the highest price in the nation. The Wichita, Kansas, region had the lowest average price, at $3.29 a gallon.

Of all the ways that Volvo could have improved the S80, fitting a big V8 engine wouldnt necessarily have been the one that most commentators would have come up with. Sharpen the styling, make the suspension and steering a little more involving maybe, even offer a little more in the way of rear legroom, but dont chase the big boys like Jaguar, Audi and BMW. Yet with the S80 V8 AWD models, thats exactly what the Swedish company seem to be doing. Hit, miss or maybe?

Volvo have undoubtedly done the right thing in not trying to channel all 311bhp of this V8 engines power through the front wheels alone. That would have been a recipe for huge wheelspin and torque steer the like of which had never before been witnessed. Instead, the S80 uses a clever four wheel drive system to deliver power to whichever wheel can best handle it. In normal driving conditions, this means that most of the drive will be directed as usual to the front wheels, but accelerate hard or encounter slippery surfaces and the differential instantaneously directs torque to the rears to share the load.

If you really want to test the system, drop Volvos six-speed Geartronic into Drive, hold one foot firmly on the brake and then gently rev the engine until you feel the car straining against the brakes. When all looks clear, sidestep the brake pedal and drive the accelerator into the carpet. Six seconds later, youll have 60mph on the clock with no drama at all, just a smooth surge of acceleration, accompanied by a purposeful roar from the 4.4-litre engine.

If you have the right conditions, this car will keep going to an electronically limited 155mph maximum. Drive a little less manically and you may well replicate Volvos 23.7mpg combined figure. With emissions of 284g/km, the S80 is thirstier and emits more carbon dioxide than either the Audi A6 4.
